La nuez de mayor tamaño corresponde a la variedad 'Harley' (denominada a menudo en Europa 'Nuez de California'); a su lado, una nuez tradicional española / nuts of Wallnut tree -Juglans regia, above- and Pecan -Carya illinoinensis (Wanghenh.) Nativo del Este de Europa y Asia Menor, posee probablemente refugios de los períodos glaciales del Cuaternario dispersos hacia el Oeste -p.ej., se han indicado formas nativas en el SE español como Juglans hispanica Rivera & al. Se ha cultivado desde épocas antiguas para alimentación -frutos (nueces)- y otros usos, naturalizándose a menudo y formando parte de la vegetació ribereña y de laderas frescas / Native from Eastern Europe and Minor Asia, and maybe having spreaded Quaternary glacial refugees towards the West -i.e., possible native forms in SE Spain have been indicated as Juglans hispanica Rivera & al. It has been cultivated for food (fruits: wallnuts) and other utilities since the Ancient Age, and often escaped, forming part of the riverine vegetation and fresh slopes
